Easter Babies
My babies were both born right around Easter. Zoe was born the day after Easter (I spent all day on my feet cooking for friends, then woke up at 6AM in labor) and Julian came home from the hospital the day before Easter. We have also lost loved ones around Easter. So Easter time has themes of life and birth, even beyond the traditional.
This year we had a very mellow Easter. Zoe and I dyed eggs the day before, but Zoe wasn't too into it. Auntie Michelle made an Easter basket with hand dyed eggs and chocolate goodies, that the Easter Bunny delivered while Zoe and Daddy were out getting coffee on Easter morning. The EB also hid eggs around the house while they were out, and the kids enjoyed hunting for them. Later, we went swimming at the Y. By evening, Zoe was very sick and feverish, with green goo in her eyes and nose. A trip to the Dr. the next day revealed a miserable ear infection, which spread to Julian two days later.

At Mission San Miguel
On our road trips north and south along hwy 101, the mission San Miguel has long been a favorite stop. It sits in a lovely valley, and is still surrounded by natural features of the landscape- green hills, large oaks, tall grass. An old adobe wall encircles the compound of whitewashed buildings, the original church, inner courtyard, aloes, and fountain. There are picnic areas, a restroom. It's welcoming, not too neat and touristy, not too run down or forgotten. I was there on Christmas day a few years ago, just hours after an earthquake shook the fragile adobes, causing it to be closed for years. Although the church and cemetery are still closed to the public, the grounds are open again for stretching the legs, and peaceful pondering.
If you'd like to see pictures from a past trip at the mission, enter "miguel" into the "search blog" space in the upper left part of the page.
